Miu Miu History
From its 1994 beginning, Miu Miu was a space for private expression and a creative sandbox, fittingly christened “Miuccia” by the Prada family, a nickname that has been in the family for centuries. When Prada was in it minimalist phase, Miu Miu offered a new perspective, one that is rebellious, sensual, and indepedent.
The first shows were staged in New York, London and Milan, but Miu Miu crystalized into its own when it exploded onto the Paris scene in 2006. Embracing couture savoir-faire as well as refined experimentalism, Miu Miu dove into fashion as a new form, granting elegance, sophistication, and a fresh meaning. Diverse ideas, interposing the masculine/feminine, historic/contemporary references, together with a tilted modernism unexpectedly combined to fashion a new formula.
Miu Miu stores now occupy some of the world’s prime retail positions in cities including New York, London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong. Its global boutiques are the bricks and mortar embodiment of the brand’s experimental spirit. Conceived as continually evolving sets, the shops suggest a dramatic but playful attitude to shopping and dressing up.
It was in the year 1993 that Miu Miu, a high-fashion women's clothing and accessory brand from the Prada fashion house opened up. The name Miu Miu originated from the family nickname of Miuccia Prada. It is Miuccia Prada who heads the brand. Nine years later, in the year 2012 Miu Miu would launch the Women's Tales series, which was a series of short films produced in conjunction with high-profile female directors and these short, silent films all featured and showcased Miu Miu's collections and her collections can be found in her boutiques in all the major fashion cities of the world.
Miu Miu is headquartered in Milan and its runway shows are all presented in Paris. Miu Miu's sister label is Prada and Miuccia Prada explained that one of the main differences between Miu Miu and Prada was the creative process. She compared them saying that the creative process in Miu Miu not nearly as complicated and thought out as it is in Prada. Also, the creative process in Miu Miu is immediate, with Prada it is more sophisticated and considered.
The communication strategy of the company is also unique and is inspired by its design point of view. Miu Miu's advertising campaigns with cutting-edge photographers are always eagerly anticipated each season as they are more than just ad campaigns, the artwork of the campaign adds a nuance and a subtext to Miu Miu's collections themselves, with the depth and variety conveying the complex layers of the Miu Miu woman. All of this is in an attempt to define a fluid, uncontrived, and contradictory vision of modern femininity.
