Dr. J. James Thimons O.D.
Dr. J. James Thimons received his Doctor of Optometry from Ohio State University, College of Optometry,in Columbus, Ohio in 1978.
He is the Medical Director of Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut. Dr. Thimons also served as the Director of the Glaucoma Institute at the State University of New York in 1998.
Presently, he serves as Clinical Professor at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Clinical Professor at NEWENCO and Affiliate Professor at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Thimons has received many awards, including the President's Award from the Connecticut Optometric Association; Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Service from the New Jersey Optometric Association; Distinguished Service Award from the New York State Optometric Association; and a Special Service Award from the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Thimons has been published in dozens of national and international publications, relating to general conditions of the eye, Glaucoma, Dry Eye, congenital diseases, Digital Retinal Imaging, Visual Sensitivity, and LASIK.
Dr. Jonathan Stein, M.D.
Ophthalmologist Fairfield | Dr. Jonathan Stein, MD Dr. Stein received his B.S. from Cornell University and his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at a combined program in the New York University Medical Center and the Manhattan, Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He completed his Cornea and Refractive Surgery fellowship at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Stein completed a specialized year in training devoted to corneal disease and Refractive Surgery. He has cared for thousands of refractive surgery patients and routinely lectures on the topic. He has written multiple scientific papers and continuously edits the literature produced by his colleagues. He has presented his research on refractive surgery in many national and international meetings.
Dr. Stein is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the New York University School of Medicine. He is an Instructor in the NYU Department of Ophthalmology and in the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He teaches and trains other clinicians in refractive surgery as well as other ophthalmic surgical techniques. He is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Eric D. Donnenfeld M.D.
Dr. Eric D. Donnenfeld is a leading ophthalmologist specializing in refractive and cataract surgery as the founding partner of Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island and Connecticut. Recognized as one of the top doctors in LASIK surgery, Dr. Donnenfeld has over 20 years of experience and trains many other doctors on how to perform refractive surgery using the latest techniques.
Dr. Donnenfeld graduated first in his class at Dartmouth Medical School in 1980, and completed his residency at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. To further his training, Dr. Donnenfeld also completed a Cornea Fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Donnenfeld gives back to the academic community as a trustee of Dartmouth Medical School and a clinical professor of ophthalmology at NYU.
Dedicated to offering his patients the latest, most advanced procedures, Dr. Donnenfeld has been performing laser vision corrective surgery since 1989 and is currently on the Advisory Board of all three major laser manufacturers. Dr. Donnenfeld has also designed and patented four instruments to be used for refractive surgery and has been involved in FDA studies that led to the approval of some of the most commonly used lasers. Dr. Donnenfeld's laser experience includes over 37,000 refractive surgeries performed, including over 2,000 procedures performed on other doctors and their families.
In addition to his work with Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island and Connecticut, Dr. Donnenfeld is also a National Medical Director for TLC Laser Eye Center and Surgical Director of the Lions Eye Bank for Long Island. Dr. Donnenfeld is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has received its Honor Award, Senior Honor Award and Secretariat Award. He has also received the Nordan Award at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Annual Meeting in 2005.
As an active member of the medical community, Dr. Donnenfeld has held leadership positions on numerous professional organizations, including as President of the Nassau Surgical Society, Board of Directors of the Nassau Academy of Medicine, American College of Surgeons-Long Island Chapter, and the Nassau Surgical Society. He is also on the Editorial Board of ten medical journals and has authored over 170 peer review papers and 15 book chapters and books on cornea, external disease, cataract and refractive surgery.
Dr. Robert J. Noecker MD, MBA
Dr. Robert J. Noecker is a leading ophthalmologist specializing in the medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma and cataracts. He has over 15 years of experience in developing innovations in glaucoma surgery, Dr. Noecker has conducted numerous trials on the pharmacologic and surgical treatment of glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eyes. Dr. Noecker has also helped to innovate and apply novel new materials and surgical techniques to the treatment of glaucoma. More recently, he has done research on the economic impact of eRecord implementation on clinical practices and developed programs for tele-ophthalmology in emergency room settings and hospital wards. He is on the editorial board of many peer reviewed journals in ophthalmology, has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and has lectured around the world on 6 continents and over 25 countries.
Dr. Noecker did his undergraduate work at MIT, medical school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Arizona and Fellowship in glaucoma at Tufts University in Boston.

Before joining the Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut, Dr. Noecker was the Vice Chair of UPMC Eye Center, Director of the Glaucoma Service, and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was associate director of the electronic health record at UPMC, director of telemedicine for ophthalmology and director of glaucoma at the Pittsburgh VA hospital and the teleretina program for Ophthalmology. Prior to Pittsburgh, he was on the faculty at Tufts University and was Director of Glaucoma and the Ophthalmology program at the University of Arizona School of Medicine.
